Searching for Mr. Right: Four Alternative Dating Suggestions

Entertaining date ideas for a gay man are not too different from those a straight woman might suggest.

One of the most nerve-racking things about your search for that special relationship, gay or straight, is the dating process.  However, the dating process can also be, and should be, one of the most exciting parts of finding the right man.  Dating can seem dull at times because too often we resort to the classic dinner and a movie idea.  Dinner and a movie can be a great date, but why not switch it up a bit and really wow that prospective Mr. Right?  Here are a few ideas you can use when planning your next date, whether it’s the first date or yours and his weekly date night.

1.  One stand-by date proposal is going for a round or two of miniature golf.  Mini-golf or Putt Putt, as it is sometimes called is a great way to participate in a stimulating activity but still have a meaningful conversation.  Golfing is an intimate enough game in that will allow you to get to know each other while not just sitting in a noisy restaurant.  Regardless of whether you’re great at the sport or not, teasing each other over your skills or lack thereof is a great way to lighten things up and get off to a casual start.  Just be careful to leave the side of you that might be a touch too competitive at home.

2.  We’ve seen it in the movies hundreds of times.  You wind up and throw the ball, shooting down the milk jugs, winning a stuffed animal for that special person.  Visiting an amusement park or a state fair is always a fun date.  It provides an open setting that still allows you to walk around and appreciate each other’s company.  There’s always a lot of things to do, with the different rides, food, and entertaining if silly games.

3.  If you both are energetic, you might think about going on a robust hike.  Most towns have forest preserves or nature centers that are a great place to walk together.  The unique scenery will surely be remembered as a fun date and can stimulate conversation about nature.  A vigorous walk is great for having the natural environment spark a romantic mood.  You may even bring along a picnic basket and eat surrounded by the beautiful trees.

4.  Think seasonally!  In the summer, go to a baseball game.  It doesn’t matter if there are no major league teams near you; the minor leagues or watching a local soft ball team can be just as much fun.  In the winter, try sledding if you are in a cold weather zone.  It’s casual, and it requires absolutely no skills. In the spring, pack a lunch and take a long drive to see the newly blooming flowers.  In the fall, I would vote for a football game (playing or watching), but maybe going to a hilltop and picnicking while you admire the foilage might be more the thing for you and your guy.

Dating ought to be a fun part of being in or starting a fresh relationship.  Building a social dating environment is important in order to get to know the other person.  After all, you might not always remember that sub-par movie you saw, but you’re sure to recall the excitement of any of these more creative date ideas.
